Tips:
- Rice texture: Using day-old rice helps prevent clumping and ensures each grain is separate, giving the fried rice its characteristic texture.
- Soy sauce: Adjust the amount of soy sauce based on your preference for saltiness. Low-sodium soy sauce is a good option if you’re watching your sodium intake.
- Flavor enhancers: A few drops of oyster sauce or fish sauce can add umami and make the fried rice taste more authentic.
- Wok or Large Skillet: For the best results, use a wok or a large, wide skillet. The extra surface area ensures the rice fries evenly.
- Vegetarian Option: Keep the fried rice vegetarian by omitting the egg or using tofu for protein.
- Customize: You can add any protein or vegetable you like – shrimp, chicken, or tofu, or even pineapple for a sweet twist!
