We frequently cook idlis, but until I came across a recipe online, I had never thought to turn the leftovers into cutlets. Making cutlets from idlis is a fantastic idea.The dough for these cutlets is made using broken idli, same like dough for other cutlets. Given that it contains vegetables, idlis, and spices, there is no question that it is a healthy snack.

In the evening, I gave my son a plate of delicious steaming idli cutlets with tomato ketchup on the side. Eating them was fun for him. It is among the most thrilling uses for any extra idlis.

Ingredients

  • 8 Idlis
  • 4 Medium Sized Potatoes boiled &Coarsely mashed
  • 1 tsp Lemon juice
  • 1/4 cup Rice flour
  • 1/2 cup Maida
  • 1/2 cup Gram flour
  • A pinch of soda
  • Oil for Frying
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Slit the idlis with a sharp knife leaving one side intact.
  2. Mix lemon juice, salt and mashed potatoes.

  3. Stuff the idlis with the potato mixture, press well and keep aside.

  4. Prepare a fairly thick batter by mixing maida, rice flour and gram flour with little water. Add salt and soda.

  5. Dip the stuffed idlis in the batter and fry till crisp. Serve hot with tomato sauce or garlic chilli sauce.
