Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup deseeded and finely chopped ripe black jamuns
  • 1 cup whisked low-fat curds
  • salt to taste
  • 1/2 tsp roasted cumin seeds jeera powder
  • 1 tbsp finely chopped coriander dhania
  • For The Garnish
  • a sprig of coriander dhania

Instructions

  1. Combine the curds, jamuns, salt, cumin seeds powder and coriander in a bowl and mix well.
  2. Refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
  3. Serve chilled garnished with a sprig of coriander.

Tips:

  • Sugar Adjustment: Depending on the sweetness of the jamun, you may need less sugar or no sugar at all, as jamun is naturally sweet when ripe but can also be slightly tart.
  • Texture: For a smoother raita, you can strain the jamun pulp to remove any fibrous bits, or you can leave it as is for more texture.
  • Vegan Option: To make this dish vegan, you can use dairy-free yogurt (such as coconut yogurt or almond yogurt) as a substitute for regular yogurt.

Serving Suggestions:

  • As a Side Dish: Jamun raita pairs wonderfully with spicy biryanis, pilafs, pulao, or any curry (especially rich ones like butter chicken or dal).
  • As a Snack: It can be served as a light, refreshing snack on a warm day or alongside a light meal.
  • With Parathas: Pair this raita with parathas, naan, or chapati for a wholesome meal.

Jamun Raita is a delightful and cooling dish, perfect for adding a tangy, sweet twist to your meals. The blend of the slightly tart jamun with the creamy yogurt and spices makes for a refreshing accompaniment that enhances the flavor of your main dishes. Enjoy this unique raita! 🍇🧑‍🍳
